Septarian Geode

A stunning septarian geode with rare calcite deposits. 

Formed during the death of small sea creatures during the cretaceous period, these sank to the seabed and were covered over by more sea creatures and other sediments as they decomposed. Over years the water disappeared and these hard balls of mud were left to dry, forming the beautiful septarian patterns as can be seen in this specimen.
